Many photographers have been trying to buy Nikon D7000 body only DSLR camera since it was launched in September 13, 2010. According to Nikon, the official retail price is $1,199 for the body only model and $1,499 for the 18-105mm kit version. Because it is the only DSLR camera that can record full length movie at 1080HD resolution and take sharp and excellent pictures, the Nikon D7000 quickly became the most wanted DSLR camera of the year.
This was beyond the expectations of Nikon company and therefore, there were many occasions where the D7000 actually went out of stock, causing the price to go higher instead of getting cheaper. Photographers who wanted to buy the Nikon D7000 body model was in for a rude disappointment. This is because the body only model is a couple of hundred dollars cheaper than kit version and most seasoned photographers would already have higher quality lens which can be used with the Nikon d7000 camera with ease.
Most online stores like Amazon, Cameta camera, sixth avenue electronics, The Shutterbug and the rest are currently selling the Nikon d7000 at $1,299 as of this post. This could be due to disruption of the camera component due to the recent massive tsunami in Japan, affecting much of the electronics industries in the country. Should you continue to wait for further price drop or buy Nikon D7000 now? It all depends on your purpose for buying the popular camera.
Even for the 18-105mm kit version, the price has gone up to $1,599, an increase of $100. With the hot demand and huge popularity for the Nikon D7000 camera, I believe the price may not be drop in the short term, but may occasionally drop back to the original retail price which is a hundred dollar cheaper. Another way to get the cheaper price is to buy the refurbished Nikon D7000 since it is almost new and covers the same warranty.
Hi there-
Forgive me, but I’m having a bit of trouble understanding is you are saying that the 18-200 mm is “outstanding” and is free of the softness often found in P&s or if, too, is a bit soft?
I’m thinking of ourchasing the package w/ that lens – thanks for your reply!
